$95 + HST ($107.35)
Minimum class size: 2
Maximum class size: 6
All Supplies included!

Ages 14 and upHave you thought about learning to quilt, but didn't know how to start?  This one-day workshop will give you the opportunity to try it out without committing to weeks of classes. Our instructors will walk you through the basics of quilting, including measuring, cutting, sewing, and adding the finishing touches. At the end of this class you will have finished an item featuring a nine-patch block, which is the foundation for a large number of other quilt block patterns. We will also talk about ways to use such blocks in bigger projects.

We have a number of sewing machines available for use in the studio; however, it is always best to learn new techniques on your own machine, so please bring yours if you have one (along with attachments and power cords). Students should be familiar with sewing basics such as threading the machine and sewing straight stitches. If you are unsure of whether your machine or your skills are adequate for the class, please come by the studio for a free evaluation, which usually takes from 30 minutes to an hour.

Ages 14 and up

Quilt-As-You-Go is a way of making a quilted project and getting the whole project finished at once--the piecing and quilting are done together, leaving only the binding to do at the end. You can choose to make your table runner using any combination of fabrics, and they are quick enough to make one for every holiday or season.

In the first class we will teach you how to properly cut the strips and then sew them together, quilting each strip in the process. The second day of class covers making binding and using it to finish the table runner.

We have a number of sewing machines available for use in the studio; however, it is always best to learn new techniques on your own machine, so please bring yours if you have one (along with attachments and power cords). Students should be familiar with sewing basics such as threading the machine and sewing straight stitches, and it is helpful if you have or can buy a 1/4-inch quilting foot. (We have a few available for purchase, but please ask in advance of the class.) If you are unsure of whether your machine or your skills are adequate for the class, please come by the studio for a free evaluation, which usually takes from 30 minutes to an hour.

English Paper Piecing

Ages 12 and up
No sewing experience required
With English Paper Piecing, you can sew beautiful patchwork with the help of templates and assemble them into quilts or use them in smaller projects. It involves folding pieces of fabric around pieces of paper or acrylic and then sewing these shapes together to form patterns. Because it requires only hand sewing, this craft is quite portable. In this class we will learn to use some newer products and several different stitches to assemble a “hexie flower” which can then be made into a pincushion, or if you prefer, appliqued or joined with others for a larger project. Appropriate for any sewing skill level and ages 12 and up.
