Frequently Asked Questions and Policies
I hope this page will provide answers to most of your questions about Tinker and my services. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will try to answer as soon as possible.
Unfortunately it was necessary for me to close the studio on Manitou Drive permanently. However, I am keeping the business open, and I am working on some online options for instruction and help. I am also accepting some sewing jobs, so email me or call me at 519-503-7076 for more information. More information about this can be found on the About page.
We do not currently have an automated booking system. For now, booking ahead can be done via phone or email as well as in person.
We accept payment via Interac (e-transfer), and we also welcome credit and debit card payments. You may pay online through our invoicing system or onsite via our payment terminal. Invoices are sent by email, and the invoice contains a direct link (button) that will take you to the WePay portal. Please note that we do not accept cash payments or PayPal. You may also elect to buy a Visa or MasterCard gift card and use that for payment. If you do not use electronic banking of any sort, please make payment arrangements with us in person.
We are actively seeking a more robust online scheduling system which can handle both studio bookings and class scheduling as well as payments.
We haven't yet found a suitable class scheduling program, so for now class registration is by email, by telephone, or in person. Payment for classes is by e-transfer (Interac), credit card or debit card (see above).
Sometimes our more popular classes fill quickly. If the class you want is also offered as a Class on Demand, then you're in luck, because you can work with us to arrange the class to fit your schedule. Otherwise, please do email us and let us know what class you are interested in. Not only will we add your name(s) to a waiting list, but we'll also let you know if we get enough interest in it to run it again. Please feel free to get a group of your friends together if you like, and we'll be happy to run the class for your group in most cases.
We totally understand that life can sometimes catch you by surprise. As long as you let us know 7 days in advance, we are happy to change the start date or session for your class at no charge. With 2-6 days notice, we can still change the start or transfer the class fee to another class for a fee of $30 plus HST.
If you must cancel, let us know 7 days in advance and we'll refund the price of the class minus a $15 administration fee (plus HST).
In either case, this must be done by email or in person at the studio, and we must refund in the same way payment was made (same card, or by e-transfer).
Every customer who books studio time must read (or have an interpreter read) and understand our written safety policy before using the studio (this does not apply to classes). In general, it covers the items below and also contains a liability waiver.
We want you to be as safe as is reasonably possible at Tinker TradeSpaces. To help with this we ask that you:
- Wear closed-toed, tough-soled shoes at all times. Be aware that there may be pins or other sharp objects on the floor, so the soles of your shoes should ideally be hard enough to protect your feet from puncture. Slippers, winter boots, and open-toed or sandal-type shoes are not appropriate for the studio.
- Use the personal protective equipment that we provide. We currently have safety glasses, non-latex gloves, and cut-resistant gloves. We also encourage you to use any other protective gear appropriate for your craft or task.
- Learn to safely use machines and other equipment. New customers who wish to use the equipment listed below must either attend a class prior to booking or book a 15-minute to 1-hour (no charge) time with Dayna to go over the safe use of the equipment prior to your studio booking. Please call 519-896-4949 to book this appointment.
Equipment that requires pre-training includes serger, Reliable steam iron station, blind hem machine, rotary cutter, and industrial sewing machine.
